Episode 12 Overview -
In this episode, Dr. Jeck has a conversation with Liberty High School student Adam Moore and FCPS Executive Director of Administration and Planning David Graham about weather forecasting, the decision-making process for closing schools due to inclement weather and even the pending snow storm!
Adam Moore, a sophomore at Liberty High School, is an aspiring meteorologist who many students, staff and community members look to for the latest weather forecast. Mr. David Graham collaborates with Dr. Jeck to make the decisions about school closings and delays due to inclement weather.
Dr. Jeck poses the following questions to Adam and Mr. Graham:
- Adam - If you were stranded on a deserted island, what is the one CD you would want to have with you, assuming you had a solar-powered CD player?
- Mr. Graham - You accidentally ate some radioactive vegetables. They were good but what's even cooler is they endow you with a superpower of your choice. What's it going to be?
- Adam - What got you interested in the field of meteorology?
- Adam - Do you think you'll study meteorology in college? Do you want to be a broadcaster?
- Mr. Graham - What are the factors that go into the decision of school closings and delays?
- Adam - Where do you post your forecasts and what do you look at before you make your forecast?
- Mr. Graham - What are some less obvious things you look at to make a decision?
- Adam - Do students come to you?
- To the new weather prediction device - Will we have school Monday?
- Adam - What is the forecast for this weekend?
