Episode 9 - #FCPS1KidsDeserveIt - Much More Than a Hashtag!

Episode 9 Overview - 
In this episode, Dr. Jeck has a conversation with two special guests about the story behind the school division's hashtag, #FCPS1KidsDeserveIt.  Guests include Megan Howland, reading specialist at C.M. Bradley Elementary School and Prashant Shrestha, assistant superintendent of business and planning.
    Dr. Jeck poses the following questions to Megan and Prashant: 
    • Megan - Who is a celebrity that someone has said you looked like?
    • Prashant - What's a saying you say a lot?
    • Megan - What does the hashtag mean? How did it come to be? 
    • Megan - How has that message been received?
    • Prashant - What is your take on the hashtag and how it relates to the business end of our schools?
    • Megan - Do people latch onto the hashtag?  Are there misperceptions about the hashtag? 
    • Megan - What has been staff members' reactions to the different approach to the budget last year?
    • Prashant - What did you notice about staff members' reactions to the different approach to the budget last year?

    Episode 8 - Disabilities Awareness Month Stories of Inspiration



    Episode 8 Overview-  October is Disabilities Awareness Month.
    In this episode, Dr. Jeck has a conversation with two young men who share their inspirational stories of overcoming disabilities and advocating for awareness.  Guests include Ryan Perry, a 2014 graduate of Fauquier High School and Lane Mullins, a senior at Liberty High School.
    Dr. Jeck poses the following questions to Ryan and Lane: 
    • Lane: You accidentally ate some radioactive vegetables.  They were good but what's even cooler is they endow you with a superpower of your choice.  What's it going to be?
    • Ryan:  What historical figure would you like to have a chat with? 
    • Lane:  Tell me about your experiences with the LHS band and the things you've had to overcome.  Do your classmates help you out?
    • Ryan:  Tell me about the play and what interested you in playwriting and acting.
    • Lane:  What is drawing you to Virginia Tech?  What would you like to study there? Have you ever thought about going into teaching?
    • Lane and Ryan:  Are you comfortable discussing your disability? 
    • Lane and Ryan:  Have you ever been made to feel uncomfortable? 
    • Lane and Ryan:  What advice would you give to another student who is struggling with their disability or how they are perceived?

    Dr. Jeck talks about this generation of students and his belief that they will do great things.
