Episode 8 - Disabilities Awareness Month Stories of Inspiration



Episode 8 Overview-  October is Disabilities Awareness Month.
In this episode, Dr. Jeck has a conversation with two young men who share their inspirational stories of overcoming disabilities and advocating for awareness.  Guests include Ryan Perry, a 2014 graduate of Fauquier High School and Lane Mullins, a senior at Liberty High School.
Dr. Jeck poses the following questions to Ryan and Lane: 
  • Lane: You accidentally ate some radioactive vegetables.  They were good but what's even cooler is they endow you with a superpower of your choice.  What's it going to be?
  • Ryan:  What historical figure would you like to have a chat with? 
  • Lane:  Tell me about your experiences with the LHS band and the things you've had to overcome.  Do your classmates help you out?
  • Ryan:  Tell me about the play and what interested you in playwriting and acting.
  • Lane:  What is drawing you to Virginia Tech?  What would you like to study there? Have you ever thought about going into teaching?
  • Lane and Ryan:  Are you comfortable discussing your disability? 
  • Lane and Ryan:  Have you ever been made to feel uncomfortable? 
  • Lane and Ryan:  What advice would you give to another student who is struggling with their disability or how they are perceived?

Episode 7 - Youth Mental Health


Episode 7 Overview- In this episode, Dr. Jeck has a conversation with Sallie Morgan, director of the Fauquier Mental Health Association.  Listen in as they discuss how to reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness.   Ms. Morgan will also share the warning signs of mental health issues and how to access help when needed.

Dr. Jeck poses the following questions to Ms. Morgan:

Episode 4 - With Lynne Richman Bell, Executive Director of Fauquier Boys and Girls Club


Episode 4 Overview- In this episode, Dr. Jeck sits down with the director of the Fauquier Boys and Girls Club, Lynne Richman Bell.  Listen in to learn more about the programs offered by the Boys and Girls Club, the importance of developing the whole child, and cultivating resiliency in children.  As Lynne Richman  Bell believes, "Every child is a gift that has not yet been fully unwrapped."
